Sancreed

Sancreed is a village approximately 3 miles west of Penzance. The parish church, dedicated to St Sancredus which is at the heart of the village, dates back to the 13th and 14th century. However, much of the church was restored in the late Victorian era and attracted a number of artists from the Newlyn School some of whom worshipped at the church and are buried in the churchyard. Sancreed Parish Church is also the place where several Grenfells were Baptised (1747-1834), Married (1745-1901) or Buried (1801-1837).

One notable birth in Sancreed is Revd. George Grenfell, Baptist missionary and explorer of the Congo, who was born in Sancreed on 21st August 1849.
